Every solution to every problem is simple.
It's the distance between the two where the mystery lies.

    GAME HISTORY

At the end of the battle of Aranmore Farm, Skulduggery Pleasant finds himself ripped from his home dimension by the Faceless Ones, pulled through a portal that will surely lead to some hellish, madness-inducing wasteland of a planet. What happened instead was that he woke up in a bed with fresh linen sheets and the smell of salt water in the air.

After getting his bearings on the ship and having a brief, seemingly benign introduction to the Captain himself, Skulduggery decides to distract himself from his inevitable, terrible fate with all the mysteries the Serena Eterna has to offer him. It's the perfect setting for someone with his particular combination of overwrought heroism, selfish fear, and a smoldering obsessive streak that's been missing something ever since he murdered Nefarian Serpine.

Fairly quickly, Skulduggery comes to realize that all mysteries here lead to the Captain, a possibly-eldritch, possibly-just-a-dick magician who appears as an innocuous additional passenger to most everybody else. But not Skulduggery. He has an eye for these kinds of things. A taste for it, if you will. And he's always been able to discern the difference between sociopathic malice and burning fury.

He's used to dealing with stereotypically evil sorcerers. That's why all the bad guys in his world are named "Baron Vengeous" or "Nefarian Serpine." But he is also intimately familiar with the way a tragic life can lead to unstoppable rage, and it's that undercurrent that continuously prevents Skulduggery from writing the Captain off as nothing more than another Scaramouch Van Dreg.

As the months wear on, Skulduggery finds himself spending almost as much time at the bridge "interrogating" the Captain as he spends with his newfound friends. It had been easy at first to wave off Ava and Maximilien whenever they teased him for his obsessive qualities -- he's used to that, after all -- but the fact that people often turn to him for information about the Captain begins to weigh on the back of his mind.

Things escalate after he experiences a canon jump time-skip, absorbing the, IDK, essence of whatever of a future-point of his life, where he is tortured by the Faceless Ones for a year, then experiences the destruction of the Irish Sanctuary. Rattled by the experience and suffering long-term madness effects, Skulduggery becomes more reckless in his engagements with the Captain. Even his more concerned friends don't try to stop him, because he really is one of the very few people the Captain willingly talks to, but none of them could have guessed what would happen next.

    Okay, well. Maybe Ava would.

After a long drive off a steep cliff, the Captain and Skulduggery's courtship becomes something bigger than either of them probably expected. Skulduggery finds himself willing to do more and more for the sake of the Captain's seriously-lacking sanity, including leading a group of friends on a dangerous quest to recover some part of the Captain's lost history.

Their relationship only becomes public in early December, and right after that, Skulduggery's homicidal alter ego murders a dozen people on an excursion. The Captain saves him from himself, quite literally, and from there on cements his place as Skulduggery's (sometimes unwitting) savior. After all, if he were back home, he would be stuck dealing with whatever Darquesse's deal is, and he'd rather... uh. Not. Thanks!

Skulduggery's life on the ship has spiraled out of his control, but he would never go back to the way things were. After living a life with hundreds of years of baggage, being able to set aside the things that weighed him down has allowed him to find a new purpose. He's become an adoptive parent to both Fio and Darcy; he's developed close ties with Ava, Maximilien, and Jade; he no longer has to carry the secret of Lord Vile with him... and most importantly of all, he's found himself desperately, wildly in love for the first time since he died.

His goal now is simple: keep his found family together, save the Captain from himself and those who would use him, and find a way to give all of them the freedom to start a new life. He will do anything to accomplish those goals, even if it means he doesn't live to see the happy ending he's working so hard to achieve.

    CANON HISTORY

Skulduggery Pleasant is a skeleton detective. If he had his way, that would be about all anyone would need to know about him, but here's a bit more:

Skulduggery was born in a small Irish village in the late 16th century. He grew up with magic, becoming an Elemental sorcerer who would eventually find himself in the middle of conflict. War broke out between worshipers of the Faceless Ones (ancient evil gods banished by the Ancients long ago), and pretty much everyone opposed to the world ending in such a horrific manner, and Skulduggery became a well-known leader of the resistance against the cult.

His opposition made him a prime target of Mevolent's forces, and he eventually paid a heavy price for his heroism. His nemesis Serpine murdered his wife and child, then used their deaths to trick and capture Skulduggery. It's unknown just how long Serpine tortured Skulduggery for; what we do know is that when Serpine no longer had a use for him, he used his red right hand to murder Skulduggery once and for all. His body was stuck on a pike as a trophy, then burned and tossed into a river.

That should have been the end of Skulduggery, and for nearly a century, it was. But his consciousness had been fused to his body, leaving him trapped at the bottom of the river, where he was forced to slowly piece himself together before crawling from the water as a shambling undead husk. Driven mad by the pain of his resurrection and the agony of what he'd lost, Skulduggery succumbed to his rage, which adopted a new persona: the necromancer Lord Vile.

He got over being evil after five years, and managed to hide his mass-murdering psychotic alter-ego from all of his friends. He didn't get over failing to murder Serpine before the War came to an end, but he sure spent the next century and a half stalking Serpine, waiting for him to screw up. And when he did -- the skeleton detective was right there to finally get his revenge.

There's a bunch of other stuff going on and you should totally read the books, but this account only acknowledges Phase One canon. Phase Two doesn't exist.

    ABILITIES & SKILLS
    ELEMENTAL MAGIC
Skulduggery is an Elemental sorcerer, which means he has control over the four elements (fire, water, air, and earth). He's able to create fireballs, walk on water, and create barriers out of thin air. After experiencing a time-skip, Skulduggery has learned how to both fly and turn a fireball into a flamethrower from his palm, which is also pretty cool. (Don't worry about earth magic. What are the chances he's ever going to have to use that?)
    NECROMANCY
He isn't known for his necromancy, for good reason: the only part of him that has access to that power is Lord Vile. Vile is a ruthless, bloodthirsty necromancer, powerful enough to bend shadows to his will and able to wipe out vast swaths of life at once. But that was past Vile, Kevin! That guy hurt a lot of people, but you can't hold Skulduggery accountable for what past Vile did.
As of December 2022, the Captain has seemingly successfully helped Skulduggery to permanently shed Vile entirely. That, of course, only happened after Vile came alive, separated himself from Skulduggery, and murdered about a dozen people in obscenely brutal ways...
    NON-MAGICAL SKILLS
Egotistical as he may be about it, Skulduggery is actually quite a good detective. He has a keen mind, a sharp eye for details, and is deeply, maddeningly curious about pretty much everything. He is also proficient in combat: he was taught to box by his friend Ghastly Bespoke; has a basic mastery of sword fighting; and is proficient in both revolvers and rifles. (Yeah yeah, the rifle thing is from Phase 2. Shut up! You're not my mom!) His fighting style involves getting in close and laying on the punches, kicks and jabs. He's known to be a ruthless and unpredictable opponent on both the battlefield and in a bar fight.

His general methodology is to ask first, sass second, shoot third and fireball fourth.
    APPEARANCE

The most obvious thing about Skulduggery is that he is a skeleton. No muscles, tendons, skin, eyes, or hair -- he's all bone and magic, baby. Notable features include high cheekbones, slightly uneven fingers (thanks Jade), and the most important feature of all: a deep, smooth voice with an Irish accent, gorgeous enough to read the phone book aloud.

He is almost always dressed in slim, fitted suits and matching hat -- the suits are almost all designed by Ghastly Bespoke, and serve as armor. If he's wearing a full suit, it's guaranteed that he also has his revolvers holstered under his jacket. He occasionally dresses down in simple linen button-down shirts and slacks, but this is very rare. He is always wearing a black-and-white friendship bracelet on his left wrist and has a shell pinned to either his hat or his lapel. He often, but not always, wears gloves. If he wears something specific in an attempt to disguise himself, I'll make sure to mention it.

    PERSONALITY

Skulduggery attempts to appear confident and cool at all times. He is a proud, borderline vain man, and has no intention or interest in sharing his moments of weakness with anyone outside of his family. His natural curiosity has bloomed into a bit of an obsessive streak, and he's most in his element when indulging whatever flights of fancy take his attention. He's prone to occasional bouts of aggression that end as abruptly as they begin. He sometimes finds himself listening (and occasionally responding) to hallucinations of his loved ones from his old home.

However, some things can never be broken, and that includes Skulduggery's spirit. Decent, honest, good people will be treated with as much respect as they give him. Relatively harmless bad guys will be teased relentlessly, while those with sympathetic backstories will find him more willing to tolerate their nasty attitudes. Assholes get treated like children, because that's what they are. Be rude, and he'll either laugh or be rude in return. But so long as you don't do anything to earn a spot in his burn book, Skulduggery will try to give you as many chances as you need to become a better person.

    PERMISSIONS
    OOC
Back-Tagging: Absolutely! If I drop a thread you want to continue, just hit me up!
Handwaving: Contact me to handwave threads that need to end for whatever reason!
Thread-Hopping: Please let me know beforehand! (Unless it's a gag tag or a [not here] reaction, I fuckin love those)
4th Wall: Unless we talk first, no thanks!
Opt Out Info: If, for any reason, you want to avoid playing against Skulduggery, or if you have specific things you'd like me to avoid (such as mentions of hallucinations), just let me know! No harm, no foul.
One More Thing: I'm not a big fan of the word "never" -- if you want to plan something with Skulduggery, I am definitely down to talk it out and see what happens!
    POSITIVE CR
Physical Affection: He avoids physical touch from most people, aside from close CR. He will return handshakes, but otherwise will react uncomfortably to any unprompted physical affection from people outside of his close friends.
Flirtations: He's extremely vain and enjoys being flattered, but aside from a few playful comments, you're unlikely to get very far. That's because...
Kissing & More: ...Anyone attempting any sort of romance with Skulduggery will quickly find out that he only has eye sockets for the Captain.
    NEGATIVE CR
Fighting: Both sparring and physical altercations are fine! Loose coordination OOC is preferred but not necessary to start a fight.
Injuries: I'm all for it, just hit me up OOC so we can figure out how to make it work.
Killing: Obviously yes, but let's talk OOC first so I can make sure it doesn't affect any plots.
Permadeath: That ain't a thing, chief, ain't you seen the news? Death don't matter on this ship!

    Life/Death

    Miscellanea
    Stella
    Passenger Information
    The Serena Eterna

    • Passengers are taken at random by the ship and the magical conduit located in the bridge. The Captain has absolutely no say in this process.
    • The ship itself does not move. This is noticeable especially when you go out towards the barrier, which lies 16KM(10M) from the ship.
    • All amenities are operated by shades, which are the unaware remnants of previous passengers. Try not to worry about it. They are entirely invisible and do not recognize or notice us.
    • Requests for new amenities can be made, but please be aware that there are likely unknown consequences for this. Least of which is, you may curse us with a second Tommy Bahama.
    • Excursions are designed to harvest experiences, emotions, memories, etc. from the passengers who embark on them. Death is not necessary for these excursions to be successful, so if Friday says there's no death planned, you're probably fine.
    • All of this, from the ship to the excursions, has been designed to encourage us to fight against the Captain.
    • The ship is an "astral chamber."

    The Captain

    • The Captain is not actually a captain, but that's what you call the person in charge of a ship, and so that is what he is.
    • Stop trying to kill the Captain. There are so many reasons that this makes you look foolish, but here are the main ones:
      • He cannot be physically harmed on board. This should be obvious. If you weren't here for the Battle Royale dinner: he was run through with a sword and also had his head caved in by a pair of lobster crackers. As you may suspect, it did nothing.
      • He is a shapeshifter, and you can never know you're actually attacking him.
      • Killing the Captain will destroy this reality and doom every single passenger to oblivion.
    • Just to reiterate: ๐ŸšซKILLING THE CAPTAIN WILL KILL EVERYBODY ON BOARD.๐Ÿšซ
    • Because of the Captain's fondness for Earth media, excursions are often (but not exclusively) based on movies, books, or television plots. (For example, the 1st excursion was based on the book Battle Royale, available here in the library.)
    • We are here because the Captain has been searching for freedom.
    • He comes from Earth, where his village was attacked by humans who enslaved him and his people. He escaped, and the Eterna was created.

    Gal Friday

    • Friday is the ship's servitor, and is tasked with ship upkeep and hospitality. She is a construct, which means she was created through magic.
    • She seems to genuinely care for passengers, even though she's bound by specific rules that prevent her from helping most of the time.
    • She is in charge of sundries gifts, and doesn't generally mean anything by them. She simply goes through the flotsam left behind by the Captain's magical conduit and gives them to those she thinks might appreciate them.
    • There's no need to engage in hostilities or violence with Friday.

    Death & Life

    • The Bad News
      • You cannot return home. This is because you are technically already there. We are ourselves, but taken from a single "frame" in our timeline.
      • (The hidden good news here is that you are still taking care of your business at home, and you do not need to worry about what your friends/family/compatriots will do without you.)
      • The idea of "returning home" is, in reality, dooming yourself to oblivion.
      • And no, you cannot return to a later point in your timeline. That would be what the scientifically minded on the ship refer to as a "paradox," and would likely lead to the destruction of the whole of reality.
    • The Good News
      • We return to our home realities, but we may be able to live outside of this one. Instead of being doomed to oblivion or Nothingness, there is a possibility that we could be leading new lives elsewhere.
    • We are the last in a long line of cruises; the previous one ended when a passenger murdered all of the others. You may have met some of them in October.
    • Passengers have souls. This is likely what the ship feeds on. No theological arguments necessary.
    • The ghosts are former passengers who eventually had nothing left to give, and are separated from us at the moment for good reason.
    • ๐ŸšซDo not try to summon the ghosts.๐Ÿšซ
    • Passengers may disappear at any point. This is an unfortunate problem and one we haven't found a solution for yet. Their spirits are most likely inside the ship.
      • When a passenger vanishes, their physical items remain.
    • Passengers may reappear, as well. They may return with full memories of their lives here, either experiencing a long-form time skip, being pulled into another reality, or in some cases, returning from the bowels fo the ship itself.
      • Passengers may also seem to reappear, but in reality, are brand new iterations of themselves. If you interact with somebody who seems familiar but does not recognize you, do not take offense until you're sure they're just being rude. They may be an entirely different version of the person you knew.

    Miscellaneous

    • Time Skips: An unusual, unexplained, and seemingly rare event, in which a passenger will find themselves absorbing additional memories of their lives back home.
      • These events can be accompanied by physical changes. For example: I came back with a different skull, as well as additional magical abilities I had developed in my home reality.
      • They are completely random, and as of yet have no explanation. Friday called it a "timeline whoopsie-daisy." The Captain had no clear understanding of how they occur.
    • Friday gave you something to wear at the muster drill. The only thing you need to know is that it is protective, and you are to wear it "if it seems that the world is about to end."

    [sail] the library binder

    Information
    Stellar

There is a seemingly-misplaced menu from the dining room in the library. Upon further inspection, it becomes clear that it's been repurposed to hold various scraps of information gleamed by other passengers during their time on the ship. It's comprised of a variety of papers roughly clipped into the rings, as well as scraps tucked into the pockets designed for drink menus. Clearly, this is a labor of love... or obsession.

    BACKGROUND PRE-DEATH (1574-1650)

Little is (canonically) known about Skulduggery's life before the War, but here's what I got. Born in the late 1500s, presumably somewhere in Ireland, Skulduggery grew up in a village that didn't trust him. He spoke with a stutter that led others to believe he was possessed by the devil. At some point, he met Ghastly Bespoke and Hopeless, two friends who would later form the Dead Men during the war.

    THE WAR(1650-1925)

The War that Skulduggery often refers to is a long-lasting engagement between different factions of sorcerers. The war began with three sides: the followers of an evil race of gods known as the Faceless Ones; the Necromancer Order; and the sorcerers who opposed the Faceless Ones and their religion. Skulduggery became one of the leaders of the resistance movement; at some point, he and his friends formed the ironically named group the Dead Men - ironic, because they usually came back from suicide missions alive.

Skulduggery eventually fell victim to Mevolent's second-in-command, Nefarian Serpine, who murdered his wife and child in order to trap him. It was a few days later, after extensive torture, that Skulduggery was murdered. His body was stuck on a pike and burnt for all to see; his bones, tossed into a sack, were dropped into the river.

Skulduggery's spirit did not move on like the rest of him, however. As other leaders of the resistance fell, Skulduggery had to literally pull himself together, returning to walk the Earth in nothing but his bones. However, the trauma of his death and the murder of his family proved to be too much, and he, like, just totally blacked out for five years. You know, as you do.

Five years later, Skulduggery reappeared on the battlefield, and alongside his friends, the resistance finally was able to defeat Mevolent and his minions. Now that the War was over and the magical community had a structured government, there was little left for him to do but become a working stiff like the rest of us.

    POST-WAR (1925-2009)

Up until the start of the books basically. Skulduggery works with the Irish Sanctuary as a magical detective. People trust him, knowing him as one of the leaders of the resistance and one of the main reasons why the war ended the way it did. We have loads of shenanigans that are never clarified, and you know what? That's life sometimes. What we do know:

Sometime before 2009, Skulduggery was sent to deal with supposed poltergeist activity in a church. He found that the culprits were instead a group of goblin-like creatures, and so he set about trying to scare them away. Unfortunately for him, they managed to sneak up on him while he was in a deep meditative state, and they... stole his skull. It wasn't life-threatening or anything, it's just really embarrassing. The skull he currently owns is one he won in a poker game.

(I assume) Sometime during the 80s, Skulduggery meets with a writer named Gordon Edgley. The two become close friends, and Gordon uses his stories as inspiration for what will wind up being his most successful novels ever. Gordon is a mortal man who wishes he could use magic, which as you might suspect, ends poorly for old Edgely.

    CANON (2007-2011)

I've done quick write-ups of the book canons here, and recommend hitting up the fanwiki your local library if you want to get all the details! But, the highlights include:

Skulduggery's friend, Gordon Edgley, dies abruptly one night, leaving his massive fortune and mansion to his 11 year old niece. While she's staying there alone one night, she is attacked by an assassin, only to be saved by Skulduggery! Stephanie joins Skulduggery in solving the mystery of what happened to her uncle, and by the end of the book she has decided to join him as his protege and partner. The two of them confront and defeat multiple enemies, including Baron Vengeous, whose plan to summon evil gods to Earth is partially foiled. However, the gods are alerted to the location of their long lost planet...

A shady cabal of evil god worshippers come together in order to finally open a portal between Earth and the Faceless Ones. Skulduggery and his friends, along with some tenative necromancer allies, go all out in trying to stop this from happening. Unfortunately, during the ensuing battle (where they killed two gods in human vessels), Skulduggery is dragged through a portal, supposedly never to be seen again. ...Until 11 months later, when Valkyrie, China, Tanith, Ghastly and Fletcher all work together to save him from the hell dimension he's been pulled into. Unfortunately, it has been 11 months, and he is... well. He just is. Thankfully, Skulduggery keeps his shit together enough to help stop some villains from blowing up the Irish Championship game. They are too late to stop them from destroying the Sanctuary, however.

    ABILITIES ELEMENTAL MAGIC
Skulduggery is commonly known as an elemental sorcerer, which means he has control over the four elements (fire, water, air, and earth). This means he can manipulate the elements in useful ways: by creating fireballs, helping him walk across bodies of water, and using the air to throw people in bar fights. The premise of this is that, if you can recognize the interlocking nature of all things, you can tap into an innate ability to interact with those surroundings in magical ways. (I haven't mentioned earth magic for good reason. Earth magic is defensive, and used only as a last resort; when used, the sorcerer turns themselves into stone, and are then forced to remain that way for an indeterminate amount of time. It could be hours, or it could be years.)
As of Dark Days, Skulduggery has learned a few new tricks. He can now create streams of fire from his palms, fly, and manipulate air into solid walls.

    NECROMANCY
Skulduggery isn't known for his necromancy, and that's for good reason: his necromantic powers come from a separate persona, one he refuses to tap into. A ruthless and bloodthirsty general of Mevolent's army, Lord Vile is a master of necromancy, capable of bending shadows to his will and wiping out vast swaths of life at once. But that was past Vile, Kevin! That guy hurt a lot of people. You can't hold Skulduggery accountable for what past Vile did.
As of Dark Days, Skulduggery still has little access to his necromancy, but with the return of his new skull, the knowledge of how to draw on it is there.

    OTHER MAGIC
There are some basic magic spells that Skulduggery can use, that are more or less freebies. He has the ability to pull reflections from mirrors, essentially serving as dead-eyed body doubles for when you need to be in two places at once. He has a crimson red aura, which is apparently important but I think that's from the later books and I don't really know what use that is here. He can also perform any spell outside of the sorcerer class as a level 1 spell, but only with prior DM permission!

    NON-MAGICAL
Skulduggery has a keen mind and is a great detective. (Better than the player is, that's for sure.) He tends to be able to pick up small details that would otherwise slip under the radar. He also is proficient with martial combat, having been taught to box by his friend Ghastly Bespoke. His fighting style involves getting in close and laying on with the punches, kicks, and jabs; he's known to be ruthless and unpredictable both on and off the battlefield. He also has proficiency with swords and guns, although the latter is by far his most preferred weapon. He will generally ask first, sass second, shoot third and fireball fourth.
    LORD VILE BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Under Serpine's command, Mevolent's forces again attacked the Necromancer Temple for the second time during the war. The leader of the necromancers, Tenebrae, was forced to teach Nefarian Serpine the Red Right Hand - a necromancer technique that would cause agonizing death for anyone Serpine pointed at. When he learned that Serpine planned to use it against Skulduggery, however, Tenebrae altered the spell to ensure it wouldn't work.
And it didn't. Serpine killed Skulduggery with his red right hand, but Skulduggery's soul was permanently bound to his body. But the process to reunite body and soul took over a century to complete, and by the time Skulduggery crawled out of the river his bones had been left in, he had been transformed by his grief and rage into something altogether more horrible than the man he was before.
Unable to come to terms with what he'd become, what he'd lost, and what he was still bound to lose, Skulduggery lost himself. When he entered the Necromancer Temple, it was as Lord Vile, where he donned a suit of black necromancer armor and began training under his new discipline.
Vile was so powerful that the necromancers were convinced he was destined to be the Death Bringer -- the necromancer's god who is destined to tear down the barrier between life and death. However, Vile abandoned the Temple before ever learning about their beliefs, turning to Mevolent's forces to find some outlet for his unrelenting rage.
During the five years Lord Vile fought for Mevolent, he became known as a terrifying and unstoppable representation of death. Undefeated in all that time, Vile murdered millions of people, including his best friend Ghastly Bespoke's mother. Confronting Ghastly in combat, however, turned out to be too much for Lord Vile, and Skulduggery managed to finally come to his senses.
Skulduggery removed the armor of Lord Vile and left it deep inside a mountain, abandoning his family crest at the same time. The armor would be later recovered by Baron Vengeous, and then hidden away by the Irish Sanctuary after his demise.

    WHAT IS HE?
Strictly speaking, Lord Vile is Skulduggery Pleasant. Lord Vile is a personality that Skulduggery keeps locked inside his subconscious, unable to fully abandon it when his rage is so deeply rooted. According to Skulduggery, Lord Vile doesn't care who his enemy is, so long as he has one. He has no sense of remorse, killing entire battlefields without second thought, and is obsessed with murder and destruction.
As Skulduggery loses sense of reality and becomes broken through repeated torture by the Faceless Ones, he also loses his steady hand on the wheel. After the events of Dark Days, Skulduggery has been reunited with his original skull, and with it comes that oppressive darkness. Knowing that the necromancers are actively searching for another Death Bringer has upset him and Vile in turn, for vastly different reasons. Now safely aboard the Eterna, Skulduggery's main concern is ensuring Vile doesn't destroy the ship, the captain, and everything that Skulduggery has been working so hard to try and protect. Thankfully for everyone involved, Skulduggery cannot truly become Lord Vile without his armor, which is safely hidden away in his reality.

    BUT HE HAS THE ARMOR?
    Oh. Oh no.
Currently, Skulduggery cannot access his necromancy despite now possessing part of Vile's armor. Arbitrary RP rules I've made up mean that he is safe from Vile until he has four pieces of the armor. As of now, he currently possesses both right and left gauntlets. Once he has the four main pieces, however, the desire to turn to his ruthless, violent, powerful alternate persona will be difficult to fight. The only choice Vile will be torn between will be "passengers first, or captain?"

    VILE'S POWERS
Lord Vile's power is all necromancy all the time, baby. He possesses the ability to manipulate darkness and shadows to his will, almost unconsciously. The reason for this power is honestly simple: necromancy is dangerous and unstable when used by the dead, and that is precisely what Skulduggery is.
In his reality, necromancers harness the energy of the dead in order to control shadows and darkness. This includes transforming shadows into projectiles, whips, tendrils, and magic missiles. He's also capable of shadow-walking, which is a lesser form of teleportation, and can use shadows to fly. Lord Vile also appears to have the ability to create a bubble of death, in which all life forces within a certain radius are sucked towards the user as it contracts, allowing him to become even stronger.
Who knows how all of this will play out in-game! That's for future Kelly to worry about. Present Kelly is just happy to have finally put this information down so nobody has to read about Phase 2 bullshit.
    FIRST IMPRESSIONS PHYSICAL
So, first thing's first: Skulduggery is a skeleton. No muscles, no tendons, no skin, no eyes, no nothing. He's just bone and magic. That being said, he is usually dressed in a slim, fitted black suit and a matching hat. He is always wearing a black-and-white embroidery floss friendship bracelet on his left wrist. Often, but maybe not always (aka if I forget), he wears gloves. If he's wearing something different or sporting an attempt at a disguise (like a scarf or sunglasses), I'll make sure to mention it. Skulduggery has a deep, smooth voice with an Irish accent that is canonically gorgeous.

    PERSONALITY
For the most part, Skulduggery attempts to appear confident at all times. He is a proud, vain man, and despite the fractures his psyche has recently suffered, he has no interest in appearing weak or feeble-minded. His natural curiosity has developed a visible obsessive streak, and he's most comfortable when indulging in whatever flights of fancy his mind conjures up for him to pursue. He's prone to occasional bouts of aggression that end as abruptly as they begin. He may or may not ramble, and sometimes he may speak to his hallucinations. Overall, however, he is still fundamentally the same guy. Decent, honest, good people will be treated with as much respect as he gets in return. Relatively harmless bad guys (Max...) will get mocked, but if you show him that it's a nature over nurture situation, he's more likely to let your bouts of bad-guy-ness pass. (Max.....) Dicks get treated like children because that's what you are. Be rude, he'll be rude back. Continue to aggravate him, and you'll earn a mark in his burn book. And trust me, guy. You do not want that.

    BUTTONS TO PUSH
Some things that will immediately generate negative CR, even if Skulduggery seems to shrug it off: unrepentant murder, genocide, or torture of innocent people; saying, "i'm the killer supreme!" and being able to back it up; hurting or upsetting children for fun; not having a better motive than "i was bored" when causing misery and madness; being an evil faceless god; people who chew with their mouth open; implying something might be wrong with him; implying he may or may not be suffering severe psychological trauma and might need therapy; recklessly endangering the entire ship by starting a needless confrontation with the captain; and most importantly, STEALING HIS FUCKING SKULL WHILE HE'S SLEEPING!!!!
    PERMISSIONS OOC
    Back-Tagging: Absolutely!
Handwaving: Contact me to handwave threads that need to end for whatever reason!
Thread-Hopping: Yes, especially if it's funny!
4th Wall: Unless we talk first, no thanks!
OOC Comments: Use them subject lines, use lil parenthesis, do whatever! I don't mind.
Please Don't: IC I'm cool with a lot of stuff, but OOC conversations about animal death or lots of talk about parents can bum me the fuck out.
Opt Out Info: Skulduggery is experiencing serious PTSD from his stint in a torturous hell dimension. You'll notice erratic behavior and talk of hallucinations. If you want me to tone that down or turn it off during our logs, that is totally doable! Of course, if for any reason, you don't want Skulduggery to tag you, just let me know! No harm, no foul.

    POSITIVE CR
Physical Affection: Unless he has explicitly allowed physical affection with you in the past, it's unlikely he'll initiate or appreciate any physical contact. Even his established CR (Ava...) should probably ask before engaging with him in hugs, shoulder pats or whatever else.
Flirtations: He won't take you seriously. You're welcome to try, and he may very well flirt back, but he absolutely will not believe it's legitimate. If it is...
Kissing & More: Generally speaking, Skulduggery can't reciprocate kisses or most other stuff in a traditional sense. He's also not inclined to try romance on for himself. That being said, this skeleton is 100% a romanceable character -- but it will take time to develop, especially given his newfound distaste for physical contact.

    NEGATIVE CR
Fighting: Both sparring and physical altercations are fine! But we should coordinate OOC.
Injuries: Let's hurt the bastard. Hit me up OOC so we can work it out!
Killing: Obviously yes, but let's talk OOC first so I can make sure it doesn't affect any plots.
Permadeath: That ain't a thing, chief, ain't you seen the news? Death don't matter on this ship!

    ONE MORE THING
I'm not a big fan of the word "never" -- if you want to plan something with Skulduggery, I am definitely down to talk it out and see what happens!

    FUN FACTS
    • One time in 1861, Skulduggery had to hunt Nefarian Serpine down in South Dakota. He got to ride a horse! None of his friends will allow him to forget it.
    • Skulduggery's most prized possesion is his car: a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental. He will not shut up about it.
    • Oh yeah, remember Serpine? That dick used Skulduggery's ribcage as a xylophone once. idk that's just fucking funny man

    About the Books

    Skulduggery Pleasant
Stephanie Edgley is an 11 year old girl who inherits her wealthy uncle's estate after he dies unexpectedly. When staying the night alone, she is attacked by a man looking for a "key" -- and she's then saved by a skeleton in a suit. After confronting him over the existence of magic, Skulduggery Pleasant introduces Stephanie to the hidden community hiding in plain sight, and even tells her that she too could be magically inclined. Reluctant for her to tag along at first, Skulduggery quickly recognizes Stephanie's quick wits and critical reasoning skills, and the two of them work together to solve her uncle's mysterious murder. The main suspect is Nefarian Serpine, one of Skulduggery's oldest rivals from the old War. However Serpine, a member of a cult dedicated to worshipping faceless evil gods, seems to be holding to the truce between Mevolent's cult and the Sanctuary, and the Sanctuary is reluctant to rock the boat.
When it becomes clear that Serpine is looking for a magical artifact thought only to exist in sorcerer folklore, Skulduggery and Stephanie race to find the mystical Sceptre of the Ancients before him. Meanwhile, Stephanie has to decide if she wants to return to life as a mortal, or commit to the thrilling, dangerous world of sorcerey. (By the end of the book, her name is Valkyrie Cain, so you can guess what she decides!)

    Playing With Fire
A year after the first book finds Skulduggery and Valkyrie working together to stop crimes and arrest bad guys for the Irish Sanctuary. When one of Mevolent's generals breaks out of prison, the two of them are put to the task of finding him and stopping whatever his evil plans may be. His plan, you ask? Well, he intends to use another general's powers to ressurrect a creature known as the Grotesquery - a creature composed of monsters and pieces of an actual Faceless One. The biggest hitch, however, is finding that power; the general in question, Lord Vile, was a powerful necromancer, but he disappeared one day during the war and was never seen again. Nor was his armor, which served as the focus for his power.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Skulduggery Pleasant book if Vengeous didn't find the armor and learn how to use it. After finding the armor and the Grotesquery, Vengeous begins his dark ritual to summon the Faceless Ones. It's only because of some quick-thinking that Valkyrie manages to kill the Grotesquery before it can fully open the portal; however, as it dies, it lets out an unearthly shriek that tells the Faceless Ones where Earth is. On top of that, Skulduggery and Valkyrie realize that there is a shadowy cabal controlling things from behind the scenes... and they seem to have a mole in the Sanctuary.

    The Faceless Ones
Barred from working with the Sanctuary after accusing the Grand Mage of treason, Skulduggery and Valkyrie are forced to work with minimal resources to solve a string of teleporter murders. Despite working against the Sanctuary's incompetent but ruthless new detective, the two manage to discover a plot to reopen the portal between Earth and the dimension the Faceless Ones exist within. This plan requires a few things: a teleporter to hop from one side of the portal to the other; an item called an Ithmus Anchor, which is meant to exist in both dimensions; and finally, the location of the portal itself. Skulduggery and Valkyrie manage to find the last living teleporter, the portal, and the Ithmus Anchor -- but the latter is comprised of the Grotesquery's remains, locked inside the Sanctuary.
After enlisting the help of their many friends -- including Skulduggery's not-really-a-friend Solomon Wreath and two other necromancers -- Skulduggery and Valkyrie engage with the shadowy Diablerie head-on in a vicious battle. The battle momentarily swings in the favor of the Faceless Ones, as the Diablerie manage to open the portal between the worlds long enough for three Faceless Ones to enter Earth. These things are invisible, massive monsters that cause immediate psychic damage on sight... at least until they each take over the physical bodies of the cultists who summoned them. Two of the Faceless Ones are killed in these mortal forms, but the third proves to be too much for conventional means.
In the end, the only thing they can do is open the portal one more time and push the Faceless One back through. Skulduggery goes one step further by throwing the Grotesquery's corpse through as well, gauranteeing that there are no links left between the Earth and the world of the Faceless Ones. It's only then, as the portal closes, when the Faceless One makes its final and most devestating move yet: it latches its entrail-tentacles around Skulduggery and pulls him through with it. The portal closes, and Skulduggery is gone.

    Dark Days
Eleven months after the events of the last book, we find Valkyrie at the end of her hunt for Skulduggery's original skull. Her new necromancer mentor, Solomon Wreath, has informed her that Skulduggery's original skull would serve as an Ithmus Anchor, a way to connect their reality to the one the Faceless Ones took their friend to. Valkyrie has begun exploring the option of necromancy, which has been helping her deal with Skulduggery's absence.
Once they find the skull, Valkyrie, Fletcher, China, Ghastly and Tanith all return to the farm where the portal is. Valkyrie enters alone, finding herself on a dead alien planet. She hunts down Skulduggery, who believes her to be a hallucination, and forcibly drags him back through the portal. (It stands to note that Skulduggery hesitates until China shows up and yells at him, because LET'S BE REAL..... You never ignore an order from China Sorrows!!!) Skulduggery immediately pretends like everything is totally okay, despite the fact that he is acting increasingly unhinged.
There are a bunch of villains who have formed a Revenge Club against Valkyrie and Skulduggery. They have a whole plot that involves blowing up people with a bomb created by the kindly old Kenspeckle Grouse. I don't really want to get into it because quite frankly the story starts getting super good here and you should just READ THE BOOKS...
The end of the book comes with a massive cost, and the very foundation of magic in Ireland is rocked to its core by the desolation engine. Skulduggery and Valkyrie are now confronted with the knowledge that there is a contender to the Death Bringer title, and by the end of the book, Darquesse illuminates herself as the true bad guy of the series.

    Fast Facts
    • Everyone has three names: the name you're born with, the name you're given, and the name you take. Taking a name will lock your given name, ensuring that sorcerers can't use it to control you. If somebody learns your true name, however, they will gain complete and total control over you. Only like 5 sorcerers know their true name - Skulduggery, AFAIK, is not one of them.
    • The two schools of magic are Elemental and Adept. Elementals can manipulate fire, water, air and earth (though the latter is only used in extreme cases). Adepts will only have control over one very specific thing, but it can be literally anything. One adept we know of is Tanith Lowe, who basically can run up walls, fight real good with her sword, and do other anime shit. Necromancers are considered Adepts, but they're dicks and pretend they're better than everyone else.
    • The Faceless Ones once ruled the planet, and are really into subjugating, terrorizing, and destroying all mortal life. Basically huge bummers all around.
    • When Skulduggery was a kid (back in the 1500s), he spoke with a stutter, so people thought he was possessed by the devil.
    • Skulduggery's most prized possesion is his car: a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental. He will not shut up about it.
    • He used to be married and have a kid, until Serpine showed up and ruined the whole thing!
    • Later on, Skulduggery's gonna learn how to fly. SUCK ON THAT CAPTAIN
    • Oh yeah, remember Serpine? That dick used Skulduggery's ribcage as a xylophone once. idk that's just fucking funny man
